Cold War Radio

On June 13th 1952 a Swedish Air Force DC-3 was shot down by a Sovjet MIG-15 fighter about 50 kilometers east of the island Gotska Sandön in the Baltic Sea. Eight crew memebers from the Air Force and the the National Defence Radio Institute disappeared into the deep. The resulting Swedish rescue operation was carried out by Catalina´s. One Catalina was shot down by two MIG-15´s. The Catalina crew was rescued by a German ship. The DC-3 wreckage was found on 125 meters depth and salvaged in 2004. In 2010 the wreckage will be on display in the Swedish Air Force Museum in Linköping.
