Kukkolaforsen

On Saturday, July 18, we took a 300 km roundtrip to Kukkolaforsen. Nearby we made a stop for lunch in Haparanda. My APRS-equipment found a way out to Internet as my cars position can be seen in this Google satellite photo.

Kukkolaforsen in Torne river is located nearby the Swedish town Haparanda and the Finnish town Torneå. Haparanda is the northeast uppermost part of Sweden. From the Swedish side of Kukkolaforsen it is just a couple of hundred meters to the Finnish side. Kukkolaforsen is famous for the very old (since 800th century) fishing habit by using long-handles with nets. The fishes are Common whitefish. Whitewater rafting is popular during summer. I took this telephoto with the camera attached to my binoculars. There was a nice art exhibition at Kukkolaforsen. Photos from that one and others can be seen here (sorry for text in Swedish). A video from our visit is here.
